Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park-Indonesia

The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park – Indonesia is a National Park located in the eastern part of the island of Java. It can usually be reached by jeep at dawn with a journey that begins to climb up the mountains and then cross high-altitude desert areas. The incredible area includes five major volcanoes within the great Tengger caldera: Mount Bromo, Mount Batok, Mount Watangan, Mount Kursi and Mount Widodaren. All volcanoes have altitudes ranging from 2330 to 2660 meters above sea level. The five volcanoes within the caldera area are surrounded by an incredible and vast sea of sand, called the Tengger Sand Sea. Within this area, which extends over 50 square km at an altitude of over 2000 meters, there is also the highest mountain on the island of Java: Mount Semeru which reaches an altitude of over 3600 meters. The area of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park – Indonesia also offers lakes, rivers and forest-covered areas. Back in 2001 we visited only the desert and volcanic area closest to the caldera but the memory of this valley at dawn, with the unveiling of the various mouths of volcanoes as magical islands in a sea of clouds, left us the feeling of having witnessed the birth of the world.
